The lost-wax casting process, also known as cire perdue, has been in use for at least 5,000 years. This process evolved worldwide and continues to be the most used process in creating bronze sculpture. You can find detailed steps of the process here.
Make your own bronze sculpture from a flat, 4″ x 4″ x ¼ of microcrystalline wax.
The wax can be heated by your hands or by warming it in warm water. You can bend it, squeeze it, stretch it, shape it, gouge it, make it hollow to make a figurative piece or make it total abstract. All textures will show up in the casting. Thickness doesn’t matter, but the thinnest areas should be at least 1/8″ thick.
